Ep. 22 - Knox
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
In today’s episode, Amanda sits down over some straight vodka on ice with actor and filmmaker Knox (Slo Pitch, Barbelle, Letters to Satan Claus) to discuss portraying ex-lovers on scene, growing up Catholic, and the blurred lines between reality and fallacy online. Professionally known as Karen Knox, Knox is an actor and filmmaker based in Toronto. As an actor, she is best known for playing “Veronica” in the critically acclaimed and award-winning series Barbelle (KindaTV), and as “Boris” in the new comedy series Slo Pitch (OUTtvGo). This Christmas you can catch her playing “Holly Frost” in SYFI Network’s anti-Hallmark Christmas Movie Letters to Satan Claus. In January, Knox launched her film Cons and Pros, which she created alongside Gwenlyn Cumyn and J Stevens, on VICE.com. It’s a heist film within a heist, and I definitely recommend checking out both the film and the write up about it on VICE.com. And if you just need more Knox (!), check out her Autofiction blog on her website. I find the aesthetic so whimsically romantic, alluring, provocative, and a great little world of wonder.

Ep. 21 - Jen Pogue
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
Wednesday Sep 23, 2020
In today’s episode, Amanda sits down over some chilled beer in a fancy wine glass with actor and producer Jen Pogue (Endlings, Time Out, Things I Do For Money) to discuss indecisiveness, how friggin’ hard it is to write anything (!), and her own podcast Women on Screen Out Loud. She is one third of Film Coop, an Associate producer for Women on Screen, and an Industry Series Producer for The Canadian Film Festival. She co-created and co-hosts Women on Screen Out Loud, a podcast showcasing influential women who work in Film & Television through written essays and conversation. During COVID Jen launched My Storytime Project, where she professionally records herself reading aloud whatever children’s storybook she receives as a request, and then posts it online in the hopes that is offer a few moments of relief to parents everywhere. Jen also holds a certificate from the Canadian Institute of Floral Design, and runs a side floral design business Flowers By Jen, creating beautiful, whimsical works of floral art.

In today’s episode, Amanda sits down over some delicious Apothic Red wine with actor, improvisor, curator and director, & current Artistic and Manasging director of Bad Dog Theatre Company Coko Galore (Coko & Daphney, Black and Funny Toronto) to discuss taking on her new role at Bad Dog Theatre during a pandemic, the connection between empathy and human dignity, and how guilty pleasures should just be guilt-free pleasures! Ep. 19 - Flo & Joan (Nicola & Rosie Dempsey)
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
Wednesday Sep 09, 2020
In today’s episode, Amanda sits down over some very British English Breakfast tea and some equally British gin and tonics with musical comedians Nicola and Rosie Dempsey of the musical comedy duo act Flo & Joan (Amazon Prime’s Alive on Stage, BBC’s Live at the Apollo, CBC’s This House Has 22 Minutes) to discuss their music, tattoos, and what the hell White Elephant is. Flo & Joan have been featured on BBC’s Live at the Apollo, in the 2019’s Royal Variety Performance, and have performed 4 years in a row in Edinburgh Fringe. You can listen to all 3 of their albums (Victory Flaps, The Kindness of Stranglers and Alive on Stage) on Spotify and Apple Music - and if you have Amazon Prime Video check out their comedy special Alive on Stage! Seriously, it’s so, so good.

Ep. 18 - Paloma Nuñez
Wednesday Sep 02, 2020
Wednesday Sep 02, 2020
In today’s episode, Amanda sits down over some cold beers (shout out to High Park Brewery in Toronto, Canada!) with actor, writer, improvisor Paloma Nuñez (Baroness Von Sketch Show, Shazam!, Mouthpiece) to discuss flirting, why the 3rd grade was the worst year of her life, and why Mark Ruffalo is the absolute sweetest! Paloma is an award-winning actor on screen and on stage, including a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for her role in the Oscar-winning movie Spotlight! You can see her on the big screen in films like the 2019 action comedy Shazam! and in Patricia Rozema’s rad feminist film Mouthpiece. On TV, you can see her on shows like Kim’s Convenience, Designated Survivor, and all 5 seasons of the award-winning Baroness Von Sketch Show, some of which she also wrote on. She is an indisputably fabulous actor, improvisor, and I’ve never met a person who didn’t think she was a stellar human being as well!
